Learn how to paint and assemble Universal Rolled Sleeve Rifle Arms for 28mm heroic scale female miniatures, with tips on fitting and conversion.

Quick answer

Clean, dry-fit, and pin the arms before painting to ensure a snug fit on your female miniature torsos. Use thin coats and a steady hand to preserve the rolled sleeve detail.

Why cleaning and dry-fitting matter

Resin casts can have light mold lines or flash along the arm socket. Skipping cleanup leads to gaps or misalignment when gluing. Dry-fitting each arm pair helps you identify which arm goes with which torso before any glue touches the model.

Painting the rolled sleeves

The rolled sleeve detail is delicate – thick paint will obscure the folds. Use a thinned base coat and let it dry fully before adding highlights or shadows. A wash of diluted brown or grey can bring out the rolled cuff without filling the recesses.

Assembly and painting steps

  1. Clean the arms: Remove mold lines with a hobby knife or fine sanding stick. Pay extra attention to the shoulder socket area. Skipping cleanup causes visible gaps after gluing.
  2. Dry-fit each arm: Test each arm against the intended torso before applying glue. Mark the pair with a pencil dot on the underside. Arms are not interchangeable left-to-right; dry-fitting prevents mismatched poses.
  3. Pin the joint (optional): Drill a 0.5 mm hole into the arm socket and torso shoulder, then insert a short brass wire pin. This strengthens the bond for gaming use. Pinning is not required for display models but prevents breakage during play.
  4. Apply thin glue: Use a slow-setting cyanoacrylate (super glue) or two-part epoxy. Apply a small amount to the socket, press the arm in place, and hold for 10 seconds. Too much glue will squeeze out and ruin the sleeve detail.
  5. Prime and paint in sub-assemblies: Prime the arms while still separate from the torso. Paint the rolled sleeve cuff first, then the rest of the arm. Attach the painted arm to the torso after both are sealed. Painting arms separately gives you better access to the shoulder and cuff area.
